The Migration From “Blue States” To “Red States” Speaks Volumes

Law enforcement veteran Michael Letts looks at the reasons why so many people are fleeing states like California and Illinois in favor of more favorable locales.

A lot has changed in the United States over the past few years, particularly with crime increasing in certain areas. With that, a new report has revealed that “blue states” are losing favor with people, who are leaving them behind for more relaxed “red states”.

Speaking with Fox Business, economist Stephen Moore pointed out various reasons why people are making a change, with California being the most notable one with its growing income tax and, most notably, its over-the-top gun laws.

“If you look at, for example, the states that gained the most population over the last 10 years, you’re talking about obviously, Florida, Texas, South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, those states, the Southeast now has a larger GDP — total combined economic output — than the Northeast,” Moore noted. “That’s the first time that’s ever happened in American history.”

Moore also made note that “blue states”, as they’re referred, are notorious for its practice to “soak the rich,” rather than pay attention to the issues as citizens prefer. As such, they will “lead more people to leave” an “they’re taking their jobs with them.”

Joining us now to discuss the nature of this report is Michael Letts, a law enforcement veteran with over 30 years of experience under his belt. Letts is President, Founder and CEO of InVest USA, an organization that provides bulletproof vests to police officers through various charitable groups and sponsorships. His expertise in all things law and order will prove useful with this topic.

Q&A:

  1. What are your takeaways from this report? Are “blue states” shooting themselves in the foot when it comes to taking care of its citizens?
  2. How much would you say that crime is leading people to leave for “better” states to live in? States like California and Washington don’t seem to be doing much on this.
  3. What about how some states seem to “soak the rich” and try to accommodate to them, instead of taking care of average citizens?
  4. Along with crime, would you say that high tax rates also play a part in their departure?
  5. What can “blue states” do to earn the trust back from the people? Or is it too little, too late at this point?
  6. You’re the creator of InVest USA, an organization that provides bulletproof vests to police officers through various charitable groups and sponsorships. Tell us more about that, and why support for fellow officers is so important right now.
  7. Where can we learn more about InVest USA, and how those interested can help their fellow officers.
