Atlanta’s Future Public Safety Training Facility Has Become a Target For Protestors (Guest: Michael Letts)

The law enforcement veteran talks about the latest action by Antifa protestors and what it means for your city..

Atlanta has become a hotbed for protests against the police – and now protestors are literally setting the argument ablaze.

Over the weekend, 35 domestic terrorists dressed in black were detained by police after attacking the construction site for the new Training Facility.. Using bricks, rocks and even Molotov cocktails,  additionally damaging various pieces of construction equipment. The situation escalated in January when a Georgia State Trooper shot and killed protestor Manuel Teran when they found themselves in the midst of a firefight.

“Actions such as this will not be tolerated,” said Atlanta police Chief Darin Schierbaum during a press conference. “When you attack law enforcement officers, facilities, and equipment, you are breaking the law.”

But the real question is if protests will spread and continue to worsen on the site as city government continues to build the facility. With us now to discuss this further is Michael Letts, a law enforcement veteran with over 30 years of experience under his belt. 1. Why do you think these protestors attacked the site where the Safety Training Facility is being built? Do you believe they’re still bitterly holding onto their “defund the police” message?
2. Atlanta has been the home of escalating “cop city” riots over the past few months. Do you see the situation calming down anytime soon? Or could it possibly get worse?
3. Do you think building a new Safety Training Facility is the best way to help boost morale with police officers, while training new ones properly for the job? Or is there another route they could have taken?
4. Should other cities consider building a potential training facility to help out its fellow officers? Or would there be concerns that building such a place could “militarize” a neighborhood, as some protestors believe?
5. Do you believe the situation will get better for police in 2023, especially if Congress (and eventually, the Senate) approve the “fund the police” program that’s been going around for months?
