Assaults On New York Police Officers Are Reaching Critical Numbers – So Why Isn’t Mayor Eric Adams Doing More?

Law enforcement veteran Michael Letts believes Young needs to take action before his city falls into chaos.

We’ve talked about New York police facing turmoil in the past, most notably when Mayor Eric Adams cut off the hiring of new officers on the force while he deals with the ongoing migrant crisis. But as a result, the current NYPD officers on duty are facing unbelievable turmoil.

Per this report from the New York Post, assaults on police officers are reaching a record-setting pace, with migrants playing part in a majority of the attacks.

The report indicates that police attacked by suspects have surged, reaching nearly 5,436 injuries for last year. And this is before final estimates have been given.

“Well over 5,000 cops were attacked and injured last year – that’s not only a record, it’s a full-blown epidemic,” Police Benevolent Association President Patrick Hendry explained to the New York Post.

“The vicious attacks on police officers we’ve seen recently didn’t come out of nowhere. This dangerous environment has been building for years. . . . It’s not going to get better until those who attack police officers are consistently prosecuted and kept in jail. And that won’t happen unless New Yorkers keep speaking up to demand an end to the chaos.”

That said, however, it appears Adams won’t be reversing his course on hiring more police officers until he resolves the migrant crisis that’s emerged in New York. And, for that matter, the placement of restrictive new laws within the city will make many cops frustrated – and might even entice some to leave the force, as thousands have already done.

Joining us now to discuss this matter further is Michael Letts, a law enforcement veteran with over 30 years of experience under his belt. Letts is President, Founder and CEO of InVest USA, an organization which provides bulletproof vests to police officers through various charitable groups and sponsorships. His expertise in all things law and order make him ideal for this interview. Welcome, Mr. Letts!

  3. What about the new laws that are being put into place? Will they put even more restrictions on officers just trying to do their jobs?
  4. What do you think will happen because of this? Will more leave the force? Will it eventually get to the point that Adams has no choice but to hire more officers?
  5. Why isn’t more being done to resolve the migrant crisis, you think?
