According to a report from The Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office cited by Fox News, a 14-year-old boy told police that he was approached in a sauna by the two men who began to masturbate in his presence. The men then allegedly forced the victim to touch them sexually and compelled him to perform a sex act, the report stated.
A report from NBC 6 stated that both men were taken into custody on the ship as it docked at Port Miami and that in addition to the molestation charges, Diaz has also been accused of having sex without disclosing his HIV infection status. Both men are being held on immigration detainers.
The Miami Herald reported that both men have pleaded not guilty.
Mondragon has been granted no bond on charges of sexual battery of a minor; lewd and lascivious exhibition by an adult on a minor under 16; and lewd and lascivious molestation on a child aged 12 to 16, according to the outlet, while Diaz also faces charges for failing to disclose HIV infection status.
Per the Herald, both men live in the same Mexico City apartment building and are being held at the Miami-Dade Metro West Detention Center.
Prosectors, urging both men be held without bond, told the court, “They tried to target a specific minor, and this could be done again,” according to The New York Post.
A Royal Caribbean Group spokesman told the Herald via email, “We take these allegations very seriously and immediately notified local law enforcement. As this is an ongoing investigation, we have nothing further to share at this time.”
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem posted regarding the incident to X writing, “One of them has HIV. Both have ICE detainers on them. We WILL get these sickos out of our country.”One of them has HIV. Both have ICE detainers on them. We WILL get these sickos out of our country. https://t.co/LjMLJumBz7
