According to The New York Post, both Liu and Secaira were transported to New York Presbyterian Hospital where they were pronounced dead. The unidentified 19-year-old woman was reportedly unharmed.
The gunman’s father, Huili Liu, spoke to the Post and told reporters that his son was undergoing psychological treatment and was in a trouble relationship with the young woman. “My son had psychological treatment all the time in the Marine Corps,” he said. “Particularly recently, because his colleagues in Jordan, they died.”
He reasoned, “The pressure of being called up and this, together, it was too much.” The grieving father told reporters that his son had met the young woman in North Carolina while serving and brought her back to New York with him. She allegedly told him recently that she was also dating the 17-year-old.

Shockingly, the mother of Secaira was informed of her son’s tragic death by the Liu’s mother. Yolanda Secaira revealed to the Post that “At 7:50 this morning, a woman rings my bell. She asked me, she said, ‘Your son has curly hair?’ I said, ‘Yes.’ She said my son killed your son. I said, ‘What? Your son killed my son?’ She said yes.”
She added, “It’s a horrible story, and then she pointed to my husband and she turned and left.”
The superintendent of the building the Liu’s lived in said the Marine “had a Chinese girlfriend, a younger girl, a student,” he said. “About seven months ago she locked herself out and I tried to help her. She called him and he called me and he started yelling at me, asking, ‘Why aren’t you trying to help her?’
“Then he calls me again, screaming and cursing and angry and crazy, and then some hours later it turns out it’s because she was in the wrong building,” said the super, whose name was withheld by the Post.
“It’s always stuff like this with him, all this crazy kid stuff,” he added. “He was a stupid kid.”
Law enforcement sources familiar with the situation stated that the woman allegedly told Liu she was leaving him for Secaira, and Liu lashed out.
