NEW YORK CITY, NY - An individual who was just granted parole after serving eight years in prison for sexually assaulting a boy and throwing him off a rooftop, has been arrested and is accused of raping a 15-year-old girl in a stairwell.
According to the New York Post, police said that 29-year-old Casmine Aska allegedly jumped the teen in an elevator at 140 Bellamy Loop in Co-Op City on Thursday, February 27th. He forced her from the elevator into a stairwell and raped her. He was arrested on Friday night, February 28th and has been charged with first-degree rape.
Aska had recently been granted parole and was released from prison on January 30th after being convicted of attempted murder when he pushed a nine-year-old boy, that he had sexually assaulted, off the roof of a five-story Bronx apartment building. That incident took place on February 1, 2013. He was sentenced and put in prison in 2017, and served eight years in state prison.
Aska reportedly threw the child off the 1545 Nelson Avenue rooftop in Morris Heights after the victim threatened to report the sexual abuse. The fall left the young boy in a coma. He briefly regained consciousness and told police that his neighbor, Aska, who was 17 at the time, showed up at his apartment and dragged him to the rooftop.
At the time, his grandfather, 78, said, "I'm praying to God that he gets better. He had leg surgery and at the same time, he was operated on his arm." His grandmother said she was home during the incident, but though the boy had gone to the corner store to get a soda for his mother. The family did not realize what happened until a frantic neighbor yelled that the boy "is downstairs!" By the time his mother rushed outside, the child was already being loaded into an ambulance.
Along with the second-degree attempted murder conviction, Aska was also charged with a criminal sex act, sex abuse, sexual misconduct, and acting in a manner injurious to a child less than 17 for the incident. Police said that he had also been arrested multiple times previously for resisting arrest, menacing, and assault among other charges.
In a separate incident, a Brooklyn man allegedly raped a young boy he was babysitting, filmed to horrific abuse, and the posted it on the dark web. According to the New York Post, authorities believe they may be additional victims.
The suspect, identified as Ramel "Menah" Warner, lived with the victim's family in Brooklyn for two years and frequently babysat the seven-year-old victim. Warner, 23, allegedly made six different videos of the abuse. He was charged on January 29th in federal court on charges of acting in a manner injurious to a child, forcible touching, and sexual abuse of an individual under the age of 11.
Authorities said that Warner's distinct tattoos were visible in the videos, which he is accused of uploading to the dark web. Both the FBI and the NYPD have asked other possible victims to come forward with their claims against Warner. The young victim told his mother about the alleged abuse in November 2022.
At the time, Warner was arrested and charged with an 11-count indictment soon after. This is still a pending case. In the indictment, authorities said, "Not only did the defendant have access to children before his arrest, but even after his arrest for raping a child, he continued to participate in a children's dance group that met at a middle school."
The indictment added, "The defendant's relentless efforts to associate with children even after his arrest for a serious crime against a child show that he cannot be trusted to stay away from children if released." As of this writing, Warner remains in custody.
