Junior high school student brutally beaten by another student before teachers chose to finally intervene | Law Enforcement Today

BEDFORD, TX - Video circulating social media shows the moments a junior high school student was mounted and viciously beaten by another student as adult teachers barely tried to stop the beat-down that ended with a head-stomp.

According to the New York Post, the two young kids involved are Harwood Junior High School students, where the violent incident took place. The video shows the aggressor sitting on another boy's chest while he rained down fist after fist on the head of the victim, who could do nothing to protect himself.

At one point in the attack, the victim attempts to get up, but is tackled again by the aggressor and brought back down to the concrete of the school's courtyard. Another video of the incident shows that even after the kid is taken off the victim, no one helps him as he lays motionless on the ground. This happens for at least another 20 seconds. As he is beaten senseless, the young boy looks for help, but instead his fellow students make whooping noises, watch, and record on their phones as the boy suffers from punches to the face and back of his head. The teachers that were there also failed to stop the violence.

The video shows two adult men, one who doesn't even put down his thermos, slowly approach and gently pull off the attacker without restraining him. When he stops punching the kid, the attacked stands up and stomps on the head of the victim, knocking him unconscious.

It is unclear how badly the student was injured or if he required any sort of medical treatment. The principal of Harwood Junior High School confirmed the viral-fight video occurred at their school and that they were investigating the matter.

According to WFAA, the principal wrote, "I want to emphasize that fighting is a severely inappropriate behavior, and this type of incident is completely unacceptable. The incident is being taken very seriously, including investigation of the complete sequence of events using video and interviews, surrounding context, actions of additional students and staff, and district processes related to student fights."

On Facebook, the Bedford Police Department (BPD) said that the fight began after 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 25th. BDP said that arriving officers saw a school staff member separating the students, and the officer immediately took control of one student. BPD also said that the school nurse arrived at the scene of the fight and began treating the other student for injuries. A referral has been made to the Tarrant County Juvenile Justice Center.

The principal reassured in their letter that "anyone involved in fighting will receive consequences in line with the Student Code of Conduct and can also experience consequences through the legal system as determined by law enforcement."

Any concerned students or parents were encouraged to speak with a school counselor, if needed. The principal wrote, "I apologize for not reaching out sooner during the investigation process to notify our Harwood JH families. We are also working to ensure we have processes, aligned training, and tools in place to help prevent future incidents. Thank you for your patience and support as we continue to prioritize the safety and well-being of our students and staff."
