Federal agents in NYC arrest illegal immigrant from Uzbek charged with sex crimes | Law Enforcement Today

NEW YORK CITY, NY - A press release from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announces the arrest of Uzbekistan national Ulugbek Davronov, a 21-year-old immigrant living illegally in the United States.

He has been charged with rape: oral sexual contact without consent other than incapacity consent; sexual misconduct: engage in oral sexual contact without consent; attempted assault: with intent to cause physical injury; and sexual abuse: subject another person to sex contact without consent.

ICE Enforcementa and Removal Operations (ERO) New York City acting Field Office Director William P. Joyce said in a statement, "ICE places a high priority on arresting and removing criminal aliens who pose a threat to public safety, especially those who commit heinous charges against residents of New York City. Thankfully, ICE officers and agents, with the help of our FBI partners, were able to safely apprehend this alien subsequent to his release from local custody, before he could do any further harm."

U.S. Border Patrol encountered Davronov on December 28, 2022, near Lukeville, Arizona, after he illegally entered the United States from Mexico without admission or parole by an immigration official. Border Patrol agents arrested him and placed him in removal proceedings.

On July 28, 2023, an immigration judge ordered him removed in absentia from the United States. The Queens County Criminal Court arraigned the illegal immigrant on the charges mentioned above. On February 19th, ICE New York City identified Davronov as a criminal illegal immigrant amenable to removal and lodged an immigration detainer with Queens Central Booking that same day.

The following day, Queens County Central Booking released him without honoring the request or notifying ICE of his release. ICE New York City Fugitive Operations officers and Homeland Security Investigations special agents arrested Davronov on Staten Island during a targeted operation. He was transported to the ICE field office for processing and remains in ICE custody.

According to the New York Post, more than 3,200 illegal immigrants housed in taxpayer-funded shelters across the city were busted for several crimes, including violent crimes like assaults. The police data, obtained by The Post, covers a two-year span.

The new data from the New York Police Department (NYPD) provide the first data-driven and most detailed look to date at how the illegal immigrant crisis has affected crime in the city. The data shows that 3,219 illegal immigrants living in 48 city shelters across the city were arrested a total of 4,884 times between January 1, 2023 and October 31, 2024.

Their alleged crimes included 1,285 petit larcenies, or minor thefts, 544 assaults and 497 cases for dangerous drugs. Those were the top three on a long list of offenses that also included robberies and sex crimes. The criminal immigrants account for just 4 percent of the total number of asylum seekers who made their way to New York City, but their alleged crimes count as another cost to the city. This is in addition to the $7.7 billion that officials revealed has been spent.

The data shows that illegal immigrants were arrested on various theft charges more than 1,900 times and nearly 900 for assault. They were also busted almost 500 times for drugs and 235 times for robbery. Three were charged with murder or manslaughter. Data shows that some 1,049 crimes were committed inside the 48 shelters.
