MANCHESTER, KY - Authorities have confirmed that two men were fatally shot after attempting to rob a home over the weekend, and according to the Kentucky State Police (KSP), the shooter was a child.
FOX8 reported that the incident took place around 4:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 15th, when KSP and Manchester police were called to a home where two men had been reported shot. Upon arriving on scene, investigators learned that the men had entered the home with intentions of raiding its firearms safe.
The shooting occurred when the juvenile (whose age has not been released) came upon the men holding firearms. In a statement on social media, Public Affairs Officer Scottie Pennington said, "The juvenile, acting in self-defense, retrieved a handgun and shot both men before escaping through a bedroom window."
KSP said that one of the men, identified as Jeffrey Allen, 51, was reported dead at the scene, while the other, 44-year-old Roger Smith, was taken to the hospital where he later died from his injuries. According to WDRB, autopsies for both were scheduled for Monday, February 17th. KSP is leading the ongoing investigation.
In a separate incident, a Bridgeport, Connecticut, man is facing multiple charges after a home invasion in Shelton, Connecticut. According to FOX61, officers with the Shelton Police Joint Task Force (SPJTK) arrested the suspect on Sunday, February 16th after a home invasion took place.
After an investigation, an arrest warrant was issued for Robert Lee on charges including home invasion, assault third degree, strangulation, threatening, reckless endangerment, and other offenses. The officers conducted surveillance and apprehended Lee outside his residence without further incident. Officers recovered a Sig Sauer P365 9mm handgun, ammunition, and magazines.
Lee was processed and is being held on a $500,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, February 18th. The investigation remains ongoing.
In Quincy, Illinois, police in Adams County are actively searching for a woman that allegedly committed home invasion and is driving on a suspended license. According to KHQA, 26-year-old Heather M. Osborne is wanted by the Adams County Sheriff's Department. Her last known address was the 900 block of North 7th Street in Quincy.
