Border Patrol agent shot, killed by illegal in Vermont same day Trump takes action to close Biden's open borders | Law Enforcement Today

COVENTRY, VT- On the same day that President Trump took executive action to shut down the border, a Border Patrol agent was shot dead by an illegal alien during a traffic stop on Interstate 91 in Vermont.

During his inauguration remarks, Trump issued a nationwide crackdown on border crossings, which sadly came too late for the Border Patrol agent.

The US Sun reported that around 3:15 pm Monday, the agent was conducting a traffic stop in the area of mile marker 168, about 45 minutes south of Montreal, when the illegal alien opened fire on the agent, shooting him in the neck. A firefight ensued, and the attacker, whose name was not released, was killed, and another woman was injured in the shootout. Her condition is unknown. The name of the Border Patrol agent has not yet been released.

The Department of Homeland Security confirmed the deaths and said the FBI will head the investigation.

“The Department of Homeland Security said that a Border Patrol agent was shot and killed during a traffic stop in Coventry, Vermont on Monday at 3:15 p.m., Coventry is near the U.S-Canada border,” Fox News reported.

NewsNation’s Ali Bradley reported the shooter was identified as a “visa overstay.”

“A Border Patrol agent in Vermont is dead after being shot in the neck by an illegal immigrant who sources say was a ‘visa overstay.’ Sources say the agent was conducting a traffic stop when he was shot,” Bradley wrote. “The shooter is also dead. A woman was injured in the altercation, her status and condition are not known at this time.

“The stretch of roadway where the incident happened is closed right now. Agents tell me they anticipated some of the criminals or people here illegally would try to escape north into Canada…this is developing–working to get more information,” Bradley added.

Fox News reported that Vermont Governor Phil Scott’s office said he was aware of the incident and that the Vermont State Police were assisting the federal authorities.

The shooting came on the same day that President Trump signed a presidential order shutting down the Biden-authorized CBP One app, which allowed illegal aliens to schedule appointments to have asylum hearings before they even illegally crossed the border. They could sign up for a lottery and, if selected, enter the country through legal ports of entry.

The app went dark on Monday, and appointments vanished, thanks to President Trump.

During his inaugural address, Trump also said the government will declare Mexican cartels and other criminal enterprises terrorist organizations and the government will proceed accordingly.

Trump is expected to issue at least a dozen executive orders dealing with the invasion at our borders, part of some 200 he is planning on quickly issuing.
