A press release published to social media by the Springville Police Department revealed Monday that officers were dispatched to a residence on Saturday responding to reports of a woman screaming and crying. When the officers made contact with the woman and approached to investigate, a knife-wielding man “abruptly exited the residence and attacked one of the officers with a large knife.”
According to the release, “The officers drew their weapons and fired to defend themselves. The man was shot. Officers rendered medical aid to the man until Springville Medical arrived. The man was taken by ambulance to Utah Valley Hospital. The man did not survive. The man’s name is not being released at this time.”
The identity of the assailant was not available as of this report. According to Fox13, both officers involved in the incident have been placed on leave. The department reported that the Utah County Metro Officer Involved Critical Incident team has launched an investigation into the shooting, which is ongoing.
